Canon: Misfits
Original or Alternate Universe: OU
Canon Point: post 2x06
Number: RNG me!

Setting: Misfits starts out in modern day England. But a freak storm has given a number of individuals powers, making it like a comic book setting....with more cursing and sex.
History:
The calm(?) before the storm.

Simon was that kid who was friendless and bullied, without even a teacher or parent willing to help him. The final straw came when Matt, former neighbor-turned-tormentor texted him to meet him at the bar. Simon showed up, only to be humiliated in front of the group when Matt claimed that he had "accidentally" sent the message to Simon. Angry and drunk, Simon set Matt's house on fire.

But he quickly changed his mind and tried to put it out because of the cat inside. Simon pissed through the mail slot, and naturally that's the moment that Matt's mom came home. After being sent to a psychiatric unit for assessment, Simon was given community service.

Season One

"You alright there, weird kid?"

As one of a group of young offenders, Simon seemed destined to still be the odd man out. But then the freak storm hit. They should've all been killed by the lightening strike, and Simon knew that. But it changed them instead, probation officer included.

The next day, Simon discovered Gary's bloody baseball cap in the locker room - along with his power. Suddenly no one could see or hear him, which really wasn't much different from how he felt in his everyday life. Simon couldn't even see his own reflection in the mirror. He told the others about it later to back up Kelly's story about her own power. While running from their storm-crazed worker (who killed Kelly before Curtis learned that he can turn back time, thus bringing her back to life) they discovered Gary's body in a locker.

When the probation worker attacked them, they end up killing him in self-defense. But who's going to believe a story about super powers coming from a group of young delinquents? Simon suggested that if there's no body, there's no crime, and together they buried both Gary and Tony.

Despite this, Simon still saw the potential for good in their powers, and wondered if they're meant to be superheroes.

While on his way to the community center one morning, Simon discovered that their plan isn't as foolproof as they thought. The foundation for an environmental monitoring center would result in the bodies being dug up. Simon took the dead probational officer's credit card after they dug them up, and created an online trail to suggest that the man is still alive. He also came up with the plan to re-bury the bodies as the concrete is being poured.

Simon made a few attempts to come out of his shell and make friends with the group. He alone volunteered to go with Nathan to confront his mom's boyfriend. He suggested a drink to celebrate getting away with their less than perfect crime. Both times, the rejections triggered his invisibility. Simon began sharing his feelings with someone online called shygirl18. He also started developing feelings for their new probation officer, Sally.

Unfortunately Sally's feelings were less genuine. She was actually the fiancee of the probation officer that the ASBO 5 killed, and was also known as shygirl18. After she discovered Tony's credit card in Simon's locker, she tried to get closer to him in an attempt to find out what happened and get evidence against them. She stole Simon's phone (always a big mistake) and watched the footage of the group talking about killing their probation worker.

In the struggle to keep Sally from going to the police, Simon accidentally killed her and hid her body in the freezer. Things get even worse for Simon personally when he fails to keep Nathan from falling to his death.

Season Two
(spoilers in this one)

"I've always had a set of balls. You've just never seen them!"

Nathan's dead and gone - well, no, it turns out that he's neither. A mysterious stranger sent a paper airplane instructing them to go to his grave, where they find out that he's immortal.

Simon is stalked by a girl named Lucy that hhe knew from the psychiatric unit, a girl who is now a shapeshifter. When Simon heard a cop talking to their probation officer (this would make number three) about his suspicions about the group, Simon knew he had to get the body out of the community center. The shapeshifter started turning the group against one another and during the confrontations, the others found out about Sally - and so does the Lucy. The masked stranger shows up just in time to save Curtis from being killed by her.

But Lucy thinks Simon's new friends have turned him against her. She took on Simon's appearance, thinking that if she confessed to the murders, Simon would be sent back to the unit, back to her. Simon apologized for the way he'd treated her. He also expressed some things that showed how he was changing.

"For the first time in my life, I feel like I belong. I've never been this happy."

"I like who I am now. Don't take that away from me."

Lucy has a change of heart and decided not to turn him in. Simon is also able to call Nathan out for his name calling and tells him that he just wants to be their friend. Together they dumped Sally's body in the lake.

The group has more and more encounters with the mysterious “Superhoodie", who seems to be on their side. Even so, Simon wanted to find out who he is. But it’s Alisha who discovered his identity first. Their savior turned out to be none other than Simon, who came back from the future to make sure that certain things happened at certain times, things that kick-start Alisha falling in love with the Simon of now, which in turn helps him become the man he’s supposed to be. The two of them (Alisha and future!Simon) start a relationship until the future Simon is killed protecting her. Alisha started taking more of an interest in Simon, especially when he took an interest in a girl that the rest of the group (Nathan especially) suspected as a murderer. Simon lost his virginity with her, but that’s as far as that relationship goes. But at least it wasn't Nathan, who at one point fell in love with Simon while under the influence of a tattoo.

There are a handful of moments where we catch glimpses of the man Simon's going to be, most notably in the tattoo parlour and at the end of episode 6, where Simon plays a solid role in saving the day. When their powers are finally discovered (or sold out, actually), Simon is the only one who doesn’t want to profit from them, and believed that it would change everything.

He was right, and the rest of the group ended up murdered (or in Nathan’s case, turned into a vegetable) as a result. But Simon was able to protect Curtis, who went back in time to warn everyone before it ever happened.

Personality:

"It's not easy being you, is it?"

Simon starts out as the guy whose picture could be beside the words "socially awkward" - and it would be one of those pictures where the eyes follow you. He's cripplingly shy and just a little bit creepy, that quiet guy in the corner who just stares at everyone else having a good time. Simon has been treated like a nobody for so long, he was invisible long before the storm. His power reflects this feeling.

But he's also someone who's incredibly lonely, who longs to have friends even if they're a group of young delinquents. And Simon can come out of his shell (and does). It just takes him a little longer than the average person. The way he’s treated makes him tense and twitchy at first, so it’s easy to simply label him as a freak and dismiss him. He also has a habit of bottling things up until he explodes, which can be a little alarming to those who’ve already think of him as the uptight, weird kid.

His hobbies are largely going online and science fiction, which he makes references to several times in the series. But there’s one more - Simon has a bit of a voyeuristic streak, always filming a lot of what's going on around him. His phone allows him to take part in what's going on when he's not able to interact any other way. But film and editing is also something that he has a genuine interest in. He's observant as well, and notices a lot of details that others miss. He might be a little on the quiet side, but there's nothing at all stupid about Simon. In fact, he proves to have a very sharp mind, and is often the one who comes up with the ideas that the rest of the group acts on. It's almost a shame that those ideas are usually how to get rid of the bodies.

Simon’s not a bad person though, and will be the first to speak up when he thinks something is wrong. He even backed out of his own revenge for a cat. Near the end of Season Two, he comes between Curtis and a knife while invisible, knowing that Curtis is the only one who can turn back time and save the others. He believes that they were given their powers for good, and wants to learn how to use his for that.

"Why would they come after us?"
"Because that's what people do."

There's a touch of paranoia in Simon, some of which almost certainly has to do with his own negative experiences with people. He wants to use his powers for good, but he also fears people finding out about them, and the intentions of those who do. However, he’s extremely loyal and protective when it comes to his friends, and will do anything for them no matter how they’ve treated him.. When Sally tried to get him to turn against the others and go to the police, he refused. After her death, he tells himself that he did what he did to protect them, a thought that Kelly overhears.

“Whatever happens, we can’t let the new guy find out about our powers.”
“What if we do if he finds out?”
We kill him. ….I’m joking.”
“You’re making jokes now? Excuse us. You’re creeping out of your weird little shell. I get that. Good for you. But let’s get one thing straight: I’m the funny guy around here!”

It's also after Sally's death that he really starts to change, to fight back and speak back, primarily against Nathan. His confidence begins to steadily grow, and with it, his courage. He starts to joke. By accident or design, this is also around the time of the first appearance of Superhoodie, a Simon so much different from the one we've known. It’s future Simon who shows us the true potential that lies inside of him - someone still soft-spoken, but also highly capable and confident. A true superhero.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

After the storm changed him (and many others), Simon was given the power of invisibility, which renders him unheard as well as unseen. This power extends to any object that Simon picks up. Despite his power triggering randomly (when he felt ignored) in the beginning, Simon has now since gained better control over it.

Appearance:

Iwan Rheon as Simon Bellamy

Simon is of unremarkable height and build, with a tidy appearance. He also has the pallor of someone who doesn’t go outside much. The most noteworthy thing about him are his wide blue eyes and that weird staring thing he has a habit of doing. The ladies love it.

He’s like a handsome shark, basically.

Log Sample:
He keeps expecting his hand to come away bloody. Simon was barely even conscious when he started clawing at his throat, desperate to get the invasive breathing tube out of it. It was just seconds later that he was deposited on floor in front of the pod, coughing it all up. Now he feels the burn, both inside and out of his throat. But so far his fingers have come away with nothing but blue goo.

Simon raises his head, and if anyone does happen to notice him, it'll only be for a moment. He stands and slowly pads his way across the medbay floor. It's all like the scene from a science fiction movie - one of the really good ones with special effects and animatronics and elaborate costumes.

Well, maybe not the costumes. Several people around him are naked, and Simon swallows hard before averting his eyes. Even invisible, he feels a little guilty about the blatant misuse of his power. Sure, there were the times when he helped steal a car and robbed a bank. And of course there were the murders. But that's all in the past. Being abducted means the chance to turn over a whole new leaf.

Simon finds his way out of the medbay, wanders down the corridors and onto the lifts. Wide-eyed wariness turns to wide-eyed wonder as he becomes more and more convinced that he's been taken on board a spaceship. It's like all his nerdy dreams are coming true.

Including the dream where he's suddenly naked in front of a bunch of people. At some point during his wandering, he'd apparently stopped being invisible. And as the lift doors open, Simon makes quite the first impression on a handful of his fellow passengers. Because maybe Simon likes spaceships a little too much. Simon offers them a nervous nod before linking his hands in front of him.

Comms Sample:
[Simon's not exactly used to filming himself, but the video is still perfectly centered when he begins. He sits down, briefly returning to that old habit of making sure that his bangs are swept perfectly to one side before he starts to speak.]

[His orange jumpsuit hangs in the background. He’s wearing the generic ship one because it's cool. ...If you're Simon, it's cool.]

I've been aboard this spaceship for exactly twelve hours. So far I've found my room and my belongings. Can anyone tell me why I've been chosen? Is there a point?

[Simon glances about nervously, but his eyes are glossy with excitement when he looks back.]

I'd also like to know if there are any extraterrestrials on board. Like in Star Voyage 13.

[Yeah, he has the box set of 1 through 12 too.]

I-I mean you no harm, I've just always wanted to meet one.
